Abortion Options in NC
Medical Abortion
(aka the Abortion Pill)
This method requires three in-person visits to an abortion clinic and is approved by the FDA for use up to 70 days from a woman’s last menstrual period (LMP). “The Abortion Pill” is actually a series of pills; the first is taken by mouth in the abortion clinic on the second visit, and the remainder are taken at home 24-48 hours later.

Surgical Abortion
(through 12 weeks)
This method requires two in-person visits to an abortion clinic and is legal in North Carolina through the 12th week of pregnancy. As with any surgical procedure, you should be fully informed of the possible risks and side effects and have worked out an emergency plan should there be complications.
At your visit to Gateway Women’s Care, the nurse will explain all of this in a sensitive and caring way that is easy to understand. Bring your questions or call us anytime as questions come up.
Later Surgical Abortion
(13 weeks and up)
If you are considering a later abortion in another state, contact us first for free pre-abortion services and trusted advocacy. The nurse will explain everything you need to know to help you understand this option and be fully prepared before you take time off work or school, pay for travel expenses, and travel to a place where you don’t know anyone.
